A convicted rapist who told his victim he was Chelsea FC striker Loic Remy before attacking her continued working for an Ealing -based housing association for almost two years after he was charged with the crime.

Andrew Robinson was charged in 2014 with raping a 61-year-old woman and was found guilty after trial, police suspect he may have committed further offences previously.

He raped the woman hours after meeting her at Champers bar in Eastcote, Hillingdon, on July 26 2014, after insisting he was Chelsea forward Remy, who joined Crystal Palace on loan on Transfer Deadline Day.

Robinson was arrested in December that year and charged but his employer, Catalyst, told getwestlondon it was not aware of the charge until the trial began.

The 37-year-old was jailed for nine years on August 24 this year, and has to sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

Employer unaware of charge until trial

A source, who requested to remain anonymous, said Robinson was working in Ealing Broadway as a leasehold income officer in the rent department, which has contact with women and families.

But he was not suspended from his role until his trial began, almost two years after being charged in 2014.

A spokesperson for Catalyst said the company was not informed of Robinson's arrest at any time, despite the fact he should have disclosed the charge, and only became aware of the court case through the media.

The spokesperson said: "Catalyst was not informed of Mr Robinson’s arrest at any time.

"When we became aware of the court case we suspended him straight away.

"Following his conviction we instigated disciplinary proceedings immediately.

"Mr Robinson did not inform us of his arrest as he is required to do.

"As a result we only became aware because of the media coverage during the trial when we took immediate action.

"Catalyst's code of conduct requires employees to inform their manager of any impropriety so appropriate action can be taken immediately.

"Mr Robinson’s role was predominantly office-based, contacting customers by phone or email."

Attack occurred after night out in Eastcote

Police suspect he may have carried out other similar attacks in the past and are asking anyone who they believe to be his victim to get in contact.

The court heard how Robinson met his victim after getting into a cab with her outside a bar in Hillingdon in the early hours of the morning.

She had spent the evening in the bar with another man who also got in the cab.

Once back at the victim’s home in Pinner , Robinson became agitated with the other man following a dispute over Robinson’s claims that he was Chelsea squad player Remy.

The man felt threatened and left, leaving Robinson alone with the victim.

The victim then asked Robinson to leave, but he asked to use the toilet before he did so. He then forced the victim into her bedroom where he raped her.

After the attack, Robinson left and the victim called police.

Officers from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command launched an investigation and following extensive CCTV analysis, coupled with forensic work, Robinson was identified as the suspect.
