The Liberal Democrats have called for a Harrow councillor to stand down after complaints were raised about alleged posts on a social media account before she was first elected.

Cllr Chika Amadi, who was suspended on Monday (July 31) pending an investigation by the national Labour Party, is facing calls to stand down over posts allegedly made by her.

Questions were raised over alleged posts by Cllr Chika Amadi, who represents the Edgware ward, after she shared a story from anti-LGBT Christian website LifeSiteNews.

According to Pink News, the story uses a misleading viral photo from seven years ago to claim that Pride parade marchers are "traumatising" little girls with nudity.

Now, Harrow Liberal Democrats are calling for its rivals to look into why Cllr Amadi was selected to stand as a Labour candidate in 2014.

It is alleged that she had already been vocal on social media about same-sex relationships, describing them as "bestiality" and "an abomination" on a page attributed to her as "Pastor Chika Amadi".

A post by 'Pastor Chika Amadi' comparing homosexuality to bestiality

Dated March 11 2012, a "public figure" page supposedly attributed to Cllr Amadi for her work as a pastor, posted: "Marriage in English dictionary is defined as a union (joining together) of a male and female.

"Anything other than this is 'BEASTILITY!

"Even animals observe this. And in the eyes of God an abomination and they who practice them will end in hell unless they repent and renounce it."

Charis Croft, chairman of Harrow Liberal Democrats, is calling for the councillor, who has been in post for three years, to stand down.

She said: “We are glad that Labour has taken the step of suspending Cllr Amadi, but they have some serious questions to answer about why they selected someone who had expressed these repugnant and hurtful views in the first place.

"We repeat our call for Cllr Amadi to stand down.

"Liberal Democrats believe in an open, welcoming society, and remarks such as those made by Cllr Amadi have no place in our borough or anywhere else."

"Homophobic views have no place in our community"

The national Labour Party confirmed Chika Amadi has been suspended pending an investigation.

Cllr Sachin Shah, Harrow Council's Labour leader, has condemned the social media posts.

He said: "As Leader of Harrow Council and a proud Harrow resident I absolutely reject and condemn these abhorrent statements.

"Homophobic views have no place in our community – which is one of the most diverse and accepting in all of the UK.

"Harrow Council this year has been awarded “Most Improved Organisation” by LGBT charity Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.

"We stand for equal rights for all – and I have asked the national Labour Party to deal with this issue swiftly and decisively.

"Cllr Amadi has now been suspended while the National Labour Party investigates."
