Members of the public helped police officers restrain and arrest a man after a woman was allegedly attacked in broad daylight in Hammersmith .

They leapt to the aid of police in Hammersmith Grove during the incident, which happened at around 5.20pm on Tuesday (May 3).

Fulham Inspector Richard Berns later tweeted: “A massive thank you to the members of public who helped my officers restrain & arrest a violent man who was attacking a woman in the street.”

The male was later charged with a public order offence.

This is not the only time the public have helped tackle crime in their neighbourhoods.

In January, a brave neighbour in West Drayton chased a burglar from a pensioner's home, preventing them from stealing anything.

After he heard a bang from the 91-year-old neighbour's home late at night, and realised police officers would not be able to get there in time, he forced the burglar to flee after a 'scuffle'.
