Vast chunks of the road network in west and central London will be closed during the Prudential RideLondon next month.

Roads in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow will all be affected on the day - Sunday August 2.

Roads in central London and Westminster will also be closed the day before for an earlier Prudential bike ride event.

Cyclists taking part in two of the five events on Sunday will pass outwards through Hyde Park Corner to Chiswick Bridge and back again, crossing Putney Bridge and travelling along Chelsea Embankment.

Kensington and Chelsea Council say it will work hard to ensure disruption on its roads is kept to a minimum, but that congestion will be inevitable.

Head of transport at the council, Cllr Tim Coleridge, said: “Prudential RideLondon is just over a month away and residents need to make sure the date is in their diary.

"It really is quite a spectacle and presents a challenge to the top professionals and the determined amateur.

“However, there is no doubt that the road closures required can also be a daunting test for our residents and for the Council.

"The best way to minimise disruption is to plan ahead and make sure that a journey to the airport or an important appointment is not missed because of the road closures.”

Around 95,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the Prudential RideLondon events.
