Properties were evacuated in Harrow on Friday afternoon (September 4) as firefighters tackled a blaze at a workshop.

According to London Fire Brigade (LFB), eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers were called to tackle the blaze, in Headstone Road, after being called at 3.04pm.

The fire affected a single-storey air conditioning workshop and offices.

A number of gas cylinders were involved in the blaze so a 75m hazard zone was put in place as a precaution and properties were evacuated. These cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

Police were also called to the scene to assist firefighters in evacuating properties in the immediate vicinity.

An LFB spokesman said: "The fire produced a lot of smoke in the local area so we advised people living and working nearby to keep their doors and windows closed.

"Firefighters will be at the scene throughout the night damping down pockets of fire."

Crews from Wembley, Hendon, Northolt and Stanmore fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the flames were brought under control by 6.42pm.
