Patient services at hospitals will be affected by national strike action on Wednesday (February 10), which will see cancellations for procedures scheduled on that day.

Junior doctors at Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital will be out on strike over disagreements about pay.

This follows the latest breakdown in talks between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the government on national terms and conditions for junior doctors.

The strike action is no longer the full walk out that had originally been planned and emergency cover will be provided. It will start at 8am and be in place for 24 hours.

Urgent procedures to go ahead

A Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: "As result of the strike action, the trust has had to cancel some of its outpatient clinics and non-urgent scheduled procedures on February 10.

"The trust has been contacting all patients who are booked in for appointments or procedures to advise if these will need to be re-scheduled".

Trust consultants and other doctors will be covering all emergency and critical areas and urgent patient procedures will go ahead as planned.

The trust is appealing to people to only visit A&E if they are in need of urgent or emergency care.
