A private security firm has begun patrolling parks across Hounslow .

Parkguard has been brought in by Hounslow Council to improve safety at the borough's parks, on a 12-month trial basis, as revealed by getwestlondon in July.

Officers accompanied by dogs have now begun patrols, the council has confirmed.

The firm, which already monitors parks in neighbouring Ealing and Richmond , will work alongside the council's parks contractor Carillion.

It will also work with police and council officers to improve safety within parks, tackle antisocial behaviour and prevent flytipping, illegal encampments and other offences.

'Safety of residents and park users is paramount'

Parkguard officers will travel in a marked vehicle and will be accompanied by a dog, enabling them to conduct searches if necessary, the council said.

Councillor Corinna Smart, cabinet member for leisure, said: "The Parkguard pilot scheme will help the council to improve community safety in our parks.

"It will provide detailed information on particular key hot spots and help to identify what type of enforcement is required, where and when.

"The safety of our residents and park users is paramount and we want them to enjoy the marvellous parks and open spaces we have in our borough."

A record 15 parks across the borough were this year awarded Green Flag status , which is reserved for the country's cleanest and safest open spaces.
