A memorial garden will be created to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana, Princess of Wales, Kensington Palace has said.

The Historic Royal Palaces charity, responsible for overseeing the plans, has said detailed plans are yet to be confirmed, but it is due to be completed before the anniversary on August 31.

A spokeswoman for said: "Our plans are still at the earliest stages of development, and we're recruiting for staff to help us explore the possibilities."

She also added her two sons, Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, were being informed regularly of the plans as they progressed.

The garden would become the fourth London memorial dedicated to the Princess, joining the Diana Memorial Playground at Kensington Palace, the Diana Memorial Walk at St James' Palace and the Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park.

A recent exhibition at Kensington Palace also displayed famous dresses worn by Princess Diana and Princess Margaret.

Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.
