New photos of Prince George have been released to mark the youngster’s third birthday.

The images of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ’s eldest child, were posted on Instagram by Kensington Palace on Friday (July 22) morning.

The four images of the little lad, who is third in line to the throne behind the Prince of Wales and his father, were taken by photographer Matt Porteous earlier in July.

Two images show him standing and sitting on a swing which has his parents names written into it. Another shows him sitting on a picnic blanket and holding out an ice cream to black cocker spaniel named Lupo.

A fourth image shows him taking a walk through the garden wearing a striped jumper and shorts.

A spokesman for Kensington Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess hope that people will enjoy seeing these new photographs.

"They would like to thank everyone for all the lovely messages they have received as Prince George celebrates his third birthday.”

The photographer added: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to take these photographs of Prince George.

“It was a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. I’m honoured that they have decided to share these images with the public to mark his third birthday.”

Last year Prince William and Kate had a second child, Princess Charlotte .
