Prime Minister David Cameron joined MP Mary Macleod at a housing development in Isleworth to hail the impact of the Government's 'Help to Buy' scheme.

David Cameron and the Tory MP for Brentford & Isleworth visited 565 London Road, where 59 homes are due to open this September on the site of a former office block.

The Help to Buy scheme enables buyers struggling to get a foothold on the housing ladder to purchase properties costing up to £600,000 with a deposit as low as 5%. Many of the new homes at 565 London Road, being created by Crest Nicholson, will qualify for the initiative.

Mr Cameron, who visited the site opposite West Thames College, on March 30, said: "Thanks to Help to Buy 88,000 hard-working people have been able to get onto the housing ladder. And, together with our new Help to Buy ISA, we are helping aspiring homeowners who would have otherwise been locked out of the market, get the keys to their own home.

"By meeting those who have benefited, I know just how much it means to be able to start planning for the future and enjoying the security that comes with it.

"This is all part of our long-term economic plan to secure a better future for Britain – and, along with cutting income tax, lowering council tax bills and freezing fuel duty, the government is backing those who work hard and get on find the financial security they deserve."

Mr Cameron's latest trip to Isleworth came just weeks after he visited the Green School, which is opening a boys school, to announce plans for a massive expansion of the free schools programme.

His newfound familiarity with the area suggests the marginal constituency, where Ms Macleod has a majority of just under 2,000, ranks particularly highly on the Conservatives' list of priority seats.

Ms Macleod said: "Help to Buy is one of the many ways our Government took action to help hardworking people own their own home and hundreds of local people have already benefited from it.

"Londoners face unique challenges, with higher house prices and a higher cost of living. We need to do more on affordable housing so more people can realise their dream of owning a home."
