A schoolgirl from Westminster has been praised by the Prime Minister for bringing happiness to children in hospital this Christmas.

Theresa May named the six-year-old Hannah Robinson a "Point of Light" award winner and sent her a personal letter in recognition of the work she has done.

The youngster launched "Hannah’s Hope Appeal" last Christmas to ensure children in Evelina London Children’s Hospital received festive gifts.

Last year she delivered 70 bags of books, colouring pencils and toys, collected from after-school clubs, businesses and friends, and this Christmas she is planning to bring even more smiles to patients’ faces when she visits a hospital with gifts just before Christmas Eve.

Prime Minister Theresa May told Hannah: 'Your courage shows that anyone at any age can make a tremendous impact on the lives of others'

She suffers from a rare genetic condition which affects her everyday life and narrowly avoided spending Christmas in the hospital herself.

In a personal letter to Hannah, the Prime Minister said: “The care you are showing to others with your Hope Appeal is giving children in hospital a very special Christmas.

“Your courage shows that anyone at any age can make a tremendous impact on the lives of others.”

Hannah said: “Thank you very much for my award.

"Its made me feel really happy and I’m so so excited.

"I love making all the children happy at the Evelina and I love collecting all the toys and filling the bags.”

Marian Ridley, director of the hospital on Westminster Bridge Road, said: “We’re extremely proud of Hannah who is an amazing little girl.

"In setting up the Hope Appeal, and helping bring presents and happiness to other children at our hospital, she has been nothing short of an inspiration.

“We are really looking forward to her visiting us again this Christmas, and we can’t think of a more deserving winner.”

The Points of Light awards recognise outstanding individual volunteers, people who are making a change in their community and inspiring others.
