The winners of the Hammersmith Society’s prestigious Environment Awards have been announced.
At an ceremony earlier this month, mayor Mercy Umah handed out prizes to winners.
There were two winners for the main award, shared between new modern houses by the railway at Waldo Road, College Park (developer/architect: Alfred Munkenbeck) and Dorsett Hotel (developer: Dorsett International, architects: Flanagan Lawrence), on Shepherd's Bush Green, which was converted from a former cinema.
The small infill housing scheme in Banim Street (developer: Vincenzo Giordano, architects: Haines Phillips) won the Nancye Goulden Award and the Conservation Award went to Hammersmith Station (developer/architects: London Underground).
There was also a special award for the refurbished interiors of Apollo Theatre (client: Eventim Apollo, architects: Foster Wilson).
As well as celebrating the good, the organisers also handed out wooden spoon awards for projects they were less impressed with.
These were given for poor quality design in relation to student housing projects, lack of enforcement action in relation to siting of satellite dishes and, for a third year, poor quality in the provision of tree pits.
