Praise for Ealing school after it receives 'outstanding' review in Ofsted inspection

Ealing North's MP was on hand to congratulate Selborne Primary School for being rated "outstanding" in an Ofsted inspection.

 MP Steve Pound visited the largest primary school in Perivale , Ealing, after the glowing praise it received following an inspection in May this year.

The inspectors said in the report the headteacher, Kerry Shilling, and governors had "created a culture of high expectations to ensure that pupils and staff excel," and that "senior and middle leaders worked effectively as a team to ensure continuous improvement and the best possible outcomes for pupils."

The report goes on to state that the governors are "skilled and highly effective in supporting and challenging senior leaders and holding them fully to account."

Praise was given to pupils' progress, which was labelled as very strong due to the "excellent quality of teaching, learning and assessment".

Disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and disabilities were said to be "very well supported to ensure that they succeed".

Furthermore, the curriculum was described as "highly engaging and meets the needs of the pupils extremely well."

The report for the school, which has 610 pupils, said: "The promotion of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is highly effective.

"Pupils are taught British values and are prepared extremely well for life in modern Britain.

"Pupils’ behaviour and attitudes are exemplary. They are very courteous and polite and show consideration and respect to each other.

"Pupils enjoy coming to school and their attendance is above average.

"Parents overall are very supportive of the school. Typically, parents describe the school as ‘outstanding’, ‘excellent’ or 'brilliant."

Headteacher, Kerry Shilling, said: "This is an amazing achievement for which the staff, pupils, parents and governors can be very proud.

"It follows years of hard work by our passionate and professional staff and we’re excited for what we can achieve in the future.”

Co-chairman of governors, Giles Bosworth, said: “Proud as we are of the achievement the school are determined to keep finding ways to improve and innovate so that every pupil continues to reach their full potential.

"It’s this attitude that makes Selborne a truly outstanding school.”
