Robbers who threatened Poundland staff to snatch thousands of pounds and attacked a cash-in-transit security guard with a crowbar are now behind bars.

James Patrick Dixon, 35, of Broadway, Knaphill , Woking , and Mathew Michael Brothers, 33 of Chepstow Road, Ladbroke Grove, were both jailed after a hearing at Blackfriars Crown Court.

The pair had forced entry into a north London Poundland store armed with a crowbar, before threatening staff and stealing more than £3,000.

Dixon was sentenced to an extended sentence of 13 years, which consisted of a custodial term of eight years, and an extension period of five years.

And Brothers was jailed for nine years and eight months, comprising of a custodial term of six years and eight months, and an extension period of three years.

DC Colin Anderson from Central North and DC Steve O'Connell from the Met’s Flying Squad West released a joint statement, saying: “Both Dixon and Brothers showed disregard for the safety of the public in their behaviour and would no doubt have continued to offend if not apprehended.

"We will continue to pursue those who commit such acts."

Brothers forced entry into a Poundland store armed with a crowbar

The court heard how both men were caught following two separate cases led by detectives from Central North OCU and the Met’s Flying Squad.

On Friday June 30, Dixon, along with an unknown male, stole a large quantity of cash from a security guard as he made a delivery to Santander Bank in Finchley Road, north west London.

Just over a week later, on Saturday July 8, both Dixon and Brothers forced entry into a Poundland store in Holloway Road, north London, armed with a crowbar where they threatened staff and stole over £3,000.

Two days later, the pair were thwarted by Flying Squad detectives as they attempted to steal more than £16,000 from a security guard delivering cash to Matalan in Cricklewood Broadway.

Both Dixon and Brothers were arrested at the scene.

James Patrick Dixon was handed an extended 13 year sentence

The pair were found guilty of robbery and attempted robbery at Blackfriars Crown Court. Dixon had pleaded guilty to a second robbery.

They were both sentenced at the same court on Thursday November 2.

A/DCI Christina Jessah said: “I am proud of the work completed by detectives from central north and the flying squad to take two violent criminals off the streets.

"The sentences reflect the severity of their crimes and I hope they use their time in custody to reflect on their actions."
