Ealing diners can eat for free at a popular Vietnamese restaurant on Saturday (November 19) - in exchange for donations to Ealing Foodbank.

Celebrating its first birthday Pho, in New Broadway, will give away a free starter, main and dessert during its opening hours from 12pm to 11pm.

The venue will not be taking any bookings on the day, making it walk-in only, and donations will taken in cash or card.

Ealing foodbank administrator Janet Fletcher, who has lived in Hanwell for more than 20 years, said: "We were overwhelmed by the generosity.

"We knew nothing about it in advance. My reaction was that it was wonderful, thank you very much Pho for thinking about us.

"We are very glad to be supported by people of the community area. It was unexpected.

"Mostly we get we get donations of food but this is the first time anyone has given this kind of support for us.

"It's the first time any organisation has given us a financial donation and put their generosity above their own income."

Head of marketing at Pho, Libby Andrews, said: "It's our first birthday on Saturday, we wanted to celebrate that we have been there for a year.

"The best way to do that is to give back to the local community and get the local community involved in the celebration.

"We wanted to do something where we can get everyone involved, make a difference in some way.

"Given we are a restaurant serving food for Ealing, we thought it would be a good idea to donate to Ealing Foodbank for people who can't afford to have food from the restaurant.

"I think it is a chance to go out and have a meal on a Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening and enjoy the meal with your family and friends, and give money to these people in need."

Spicy chicken with spring rolls

The venue serves up a range of Vietnamese food including Pho, the national dish of Vietnam, serving rice noodle soup with a side plate of fresh herbs.

Starters include spring rolls and pork and lemongrass meatballs, while the dessert menu features decadent chocolate truffle.
