Two officers from Kensington and Chelsea are under investigation for gross misconduct by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

They are alleged to have failed to deal with an unverified number of complaints and conduct matters appropriately or in line with local and national policies and procedures.

The failures include not issuing officers with appropriate paperwork during the course of investigations and providing false information to complainants.

The IPCC is currently examining 14 allegations, referred by the Met , covering a three year period between 2012 and 2015, but this will be kept under review.

IPCC associate commissioner, Tom Milsom, said: “These are serious allegations of wrongdoing by officers who themselves were responsible for upholding and improving professional standards within Kensington and Chelsea.

“The IPCC’s investigators will be examining a number of cases to determine if any actions or inactions by these two officers did not comply with standard police policies and guidance.”

The officers have been placed on restricted duties for the duration of the investigation.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Kensington and Chelsea Borough had noticed irregularities in a number of complaints and conduct matters previously dealt with by its Professional Standards unit.

"The matter was referred to the DPS (Directorate of Professional Standards) who in turn referred it to the IPCC.

"On 18 August 2016 the MPS (Metropolitan Police Service) was informed the IPCC would independently investigate the matter as gross misconduct.

"Two officers, who no longer work on the unit, were placed on restricted duties on 16 November 2016.

"Officers from Kensington and Chelsea Borough are co-operating fully with the IPCC investigation, and it would be inappropriate for the MPS to discuss anything further whilst there is an active IPCC investigation."
