The investigation is being carried out into the use of police force on a man who required hospital treatment following an incident at the junction of Elm Road and St John's Road at around 10.40pm on December 19 2016.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigators carried out door-to-door enquiries in an attempt to identify witnesses of the incident on Monday (January 23).

Investigators are urging anyone who may have photographed or filmed the incident or may have seen the events leading up to it to come forward and assist their investigation.

IPCC operations manager, Colin Sparrow, said: “We would ask anybody who was in the area that evening and saw police activity to get in touch with us.

"We are aware of a number of people nearby who may have photographed or filmed the incident on their mobile phones, and would ask that they come forward to assist with this investigation.”
