A man was detained under the Mental Health Act after being talked down from a bridge in Hayes by police.

Metropolitan Police were called at 2.08am on Friday (April 1) following concerns raised for the welfare of a man seen on a bridge at the Hayes bypass.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade .

"Officers spoke with the man who came down at 3.50am.

"He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act."

London Ambulance Service attended the scene after they were called at 2.19am to reports of an incident at Ossie Garvin Roundabout, Hayes.

An LAS spokesperson said: "We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene.

"We checked over a man at the scene and took him to hospital."

Latest in series of incidents

London Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to help assist the police.

A spokesman said: "We sent two fire engines. We got there at around 2.30am and the incident was over for us at around 4am."

Roads were closed as a result of the incident and the N207 bus route was subject to diversions.

The incident comes under two days after a police officer forced to grab woman to stop her falling from bridge over A40 in Uxbridge.

Hillingdon borough has also seen two deaths within a two-week period. The first was a man who died after falling from a bridge over the A40 at Long Lane and the second a man who fell from a multi-storey car park in Uxbridge .
