Police say they are still actively pursuing their investigation into the murder of singer Ian Newtion , whose body was discovered in a pedestrian underpass at Greenford Roundabout nearly eight years ago.

The reggae star from Fulham , whose stage name was Scoobie Santino, was found with his neck cut on March 22, Mother's Day, in 2009 . It is believed the weapon used was a brown beer bottle.

Speaking ahead of the anniversary of his death, police said the case is being “actively investigated” and revealed a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in November last year.

He has been released on bail until a later date.

The body of 45-year-old Mr Newtion, who had a 1990s hit with the song Money Honey, was found by a passer-by at 8.50am .

The dad had been performing at a hall in Rockware Avenue known as the Scout Hut on Saturday (March 21) night, and left to catch a bus to his home in Clem Attlee Estate in Lillie Road at 7.45am (March 22).

Reports at the time said he was last seen by a jogger looking agitated about 10 minutes later.

Despite extensive investigations and a £20,000 reward, police have yet to charge anyone.

Speaking in 2010, on the first anniversary of the death, elder brother Cleave Newtion said: “When you’re haemorrhaging pain and sorrow you have to find some way of containing it or you couldn’t go on.

“Until we find closure, that necessity for Ian’s family and close friend remains, it’s just as raw."

Appeal for help

Imploring people to help, he added: “There’s no information, nothing enlightening us to why he ended up at that exit of the subway, who he may have spoken to or who may have met him.

“Individuals may think they have to have some comprehensive information answering all these questions but all we need is to start narrowing down the time-line.

“They may think it is irrelevant information, as to which route he took or whether he was alone, but they are all pieces of information about that critical hour.”

Police say they are “continuing to work to bring those responsible to justice” and ask anyone with information to get in touch by calling the non-emergency 101 number, the incident room on 020 8358 0400 or tweeting @MetCC.

Information can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
