Officers in Hounslow have been praised for acting quickly to rescue a man who threatened self-harm on the roof of West Middlesex Hospital.

Metropolitan Police were called to the hospital in Twickenham Road, Isleworth , at around 5.09pm on Friday (March 3) to reports of a man on the roof.

Officers quickly spoke to him in Punjabi to keep him calm whilst London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade arrived at the scene.

Police were praised for their help in bringing the man safely down

After speaking to him for over an hour, the 33-year-old was safely restrained and taken down so he could get medical help.

He is now receiving hospital treatment and has not sustained serious physical injury.

Sergeant Dave Turtle of Hounslow Police said: "This was a swift and compassionate response from officers, who were able to use their language skills to prevent a tragedy occurring.

"Subsequently three other officers showed considerable presence of mind and courage to safely restrain the man."
