A man has been sentenced for spitting at a British Transport Police (BTP) PCSO at Victoria station.

The incident happened on December 29 2016, when 38-year-old Petru Alexuc of no fixed address, began a prolonged attack on a PCSO, spitting in his face and making obscene gestures, according to BTP .

Consequently, the officer was required to have blood tests and vaccinations in hospital.

Alexuc was arrested and pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 17 to one count of assaulting a designated / accredited person.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Assistant chief constable, Robin Smith, said: "Spitting is a disgusting form of assault which is not only revolting but is also known to spread infection.

"No one should be spat at while they are doing their job and as this conviction demonstrates, we will relentlessly pursue offenders through the courts and enforce available sanctions when our officers are spat at."

Alexuc was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 23 and ordered to pay £150 compensation and £215 court costs.
