A Muslim woman who was abused for wearing a face veil has been offered support and advice from police, who are urging the man in the shocking footage to come forward.

Detectives from the Community Safety Unit spoke to the victim on April 4 and again on April 5, and say the verbal attack, which was captured on film, appears to be a hate-crime incident.

They are also asking the man in the video to come forward and assist them with their enquiries.

In the footage, the woman argues with the man in a corner shop after he allegedly compared her to Batman and told her his children could not tell if she was a man or a woman because she was wearing her niqab.

He is also seen telling her he knew of another woman who wore similar clothing who supported terrorist group ISIS.

getwestlondon has only chosen to show some of the footage due to the upsetting nature of it, but in the full clip the children can later be heard crying in the background as the row continues for more than five minutes.

The argument continues despite attempted interventions by the shopkeeper and other customers.

The suspect is a black man, approximately 5ft 8ins tall and aged in his mid 30s, and was wearing a black ‘New York Yankees’ top at the time of the incident.

In January, footage of a man hurling homophobic abuse at a fellow passenger on the London Underground was shared , as British Transport Police said it was investigating the incident.

It had earlier been reported that the incident occurred in Uxbridge Road in Ealing, but Metropolitan Police now say it occurred at a shop in Uxbridge Road in Shepherd’s Bush, near to the market.

Anyone who can assist Hammersmith and Fulham Police with their investigation, or who was in the store when the footage was taken, is urged to call police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
