Ambulance crews were forced to ask for 'urgent assistance' as a patient lashed out at a paramedic on route to Northwick Park Hospital .

London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews were transporting a male patient, aged around 30 years old, to hospital when he became so aggressive the crews had to plea for back up from the police.

Police were called at around 11pm on Saturday (May 13) night to Watford Road in Harrow .

A Harrow Police spokesperson said: "The crew requested urgent assistance.

"On arrival, the LAS crew stated a male patient about 30 yrs old, who was being transported to Northwick Park Hospital, had become aggressive towards the female paramedic, shouting at her and lashing out."

The spokesperson added: "There were no actual offences and once we calmed the male down he was taken to hospital where he received treatment.

"The crew were shaken but otherwise OK."
