Police have been granted warrants to further detain five male teenagers arrested on terrorist offences.

They had been arrested on suspicion of Preparation of Terrorist Acts, Contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, on Monday (February 20), and follows searches at four residential addresses in the capital on February 14.

Police say the arrests “relate to plans to travel to join a proscribed organisation”.

Among those to receive the further detention warrants, until Monday (February 27) are a 17 and 19-year-old from a residential address in west London.

Warrants were also extended to the same date for a 16 and 17-year-old from South London.

A warrant of further detention, until Friday (February 24) has been granted in respect of the 15-year-old boy arrested in east London.

The warrants were granted at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (February 21).

All five males have been detained under the Terrorism Act 2006 (TACT) .
