Police have confirmed reports of the stabbing of a 23-year-old man in Greenford.

Officers were called at around 6.40pm on March 8 to outside Barclays bank, in Greenford Broadway, where they found the London Ambulance Service already on the scene treating the man for a single stab wound to the chest.

It was ascertained by officers that the victim had been stabbed outside Raghif Supermarekt, in Ruislip Road East.

He was taken to a west London hospital for treatment to his non-life threatening injury.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "No arrests have been made at this stage."

On the same Sunday (March 8), at around 7.25pm, police were also called to a report of a man in possession of an unknown type of weapon and a fight involving the same man and four other men in Greenway Gardens, Greenford.

A Met Police spokesman said: "By the time police arrived at the scene all the men had left the area and, after a search, could not be found.

"At this stage police are keeping an open mind about if these incidents are linked. Enquiries continue."

A nearby resident, Mike Roberts, said at around 7pm that evening he had got out of his car in Greenway Gardens and was approached by a man with a weapon which was long, red, and made of wood and iron.

Mr Roberts said: "He said 'can you help me' then he said 'don't bother' and ran back down Greenway Gardens and met another man on the corner. They were talking then four other men came up to them. There was a fight and I called the police."
