Police have confirmed that Ealing police station will close but have remained tight-lipped on reports it could be relocated to Brent .

At a debate on policing in the House of Commons, Labour MP Rupa Huq claimed that Acton and Ealing police stations were set to close.

She added that, following visits to police staff at the stations, morale was low and its officers were set to move to Brent.

Speaking to a packed house on November 4, the Ealing Central and Acton MP said: "I have been to Ealing and Acton police stations in recent weeks, where I have spoken to our chief superintendent and officers at every level.

"People are seriously worried. They talk about devastation and a lack of morale. Just like the iconic Scotland Yard, both those police stations will go and the officers will be relocated to Brent."

Following her speech, she claimed she was told by police that both stations would be replaced by a response unit in Alperton, Brent.

A Met police spokesperson denied the claim that Acton police station would close, but confirmed that Ealing police station on Uxbridge Road would close because it is "no longer suitable."

Get West London reported in 2012 that plans had been drawn up to relocate Ealing police station to a nearby council building, but the spokesperson said that was only the front counter and not the whole station.

Ms Huq's visit was part of a programme to review facilities as a way of delivering best value, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that a suitable replacement for the building was currently being discussed and, once agreed, a "marketing process" for the station would begin.

"We are currently working with relevant partners to find an appropriate solution"

But the spokesperson did not say whether one of the solutions being considered was relocating to Brent.

The spokesperson said: "The MPs have no plans to close Acton police station and we have in fact only just completed a significant upgrade program at Acton to ensure the facility remains part of our long term estates portfolio.

"Ealing Police Station is very outdated and has been identified as a building that is no longer suitable for operational requirements.

"We are currently working with relevant partners to find an appropriate solution in line with the Local Policing Model and the MOPAC/MPS Estate Strategy. Once a suitable option has been agreed, a marketing process for the building will begin.

"By identifying and targeting older, under-occupied buildings, we are able to make better use of the estate and reinvest the financial savings made back into policing."

Labour MP Stephen Pound said he would strongly oppose any move to relocate police officers because of the safety concerns such a move would prompt.

"I would oppose that with every fibre of my being because cannot have long distance policing in Ealing.

"I think it would be disastrous, it would be Christmas for the criminals and a crisis for the citizens."
