A man who was arrested in The Mall near Buckingham Palace on Wednesday morning (May 24), has been charged with the possession of an offensive weapon.

Jahiem Meade, of Loddiges Road in Hackney, was charged on Wednesday evening.

The 22-year-old will appear in custody at an unconfirmed magistrates' court, on Thursday (May 25).

Met Police say the incident is not believed to be terrorism related.

The UK terror threat has been raised to critical in the wake of the Manchester attack which killed 22 people and left many more injured.

This means an attack could be imminent.

The armed forces have been patrolling high-profile locations across the city such as Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.
