Police were called to a primary school in Hounslow after a pupil was found with a knife, gestwestlondon has learned.

Beavers Community Primary School has confirmed a child brought a penknife to the school in Arundel Road last Wednesday (April 15).

It said staff had quickly confiscated the knife before inviting police to the school to remind all pupils about the dangers of carrying a weapon.

Details of the security scare emerged after a father contacted us to say his son was afraid to go back following the incident.

getwestlondon understands the boy concerned, believed to be aged nine, was suspended for the day.

The school insisted staff had followed school policy when dealing with the episode and steps had been taken to prevent anything similar happening in future.

Headteacher Dee Scott said: "A pupil brought a penknife into the school, before the start of the school day, last Wednesday morning.

"My staff acted swiftly to remove the knife from the pupil and dealt with the incident in accordance with our procedures and sanctions.

"Since then we've worked with the local schools police officer who spoke to the pupils involved and their classmates, about the seriousness and danger of behaving in this way.

"We take these incidents very seriously and are aware of parents' concerns. We've met with the parents involved and have written to all parents and carers to ensure there is no misinformation about what happened and we've explained what steps we've taken to prevent this from happening again.

"Parents and carers with any further concerns should contact their child's teacher or myself."

A father, who asked not to be named, said: "I also believe staff school should have done more to speak to my child and ensure he's OK after what happened. although I've been assured the situation is being monitored."
