People in Feltham are being urged to have their say on plans for new extra care housing on the site of the former Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

A consultation is under way on proposals for the building on Bedfont Lane to be converted into 92 new homes for elderly people and vulnerable adults, as part of Hounslow Council’s ongoing commitment to provide 400 affordable homes across the borough.

If given the go ahead, the extra care housing scheme will provide flats with areas of the building specifically designed to meet the needs of people with dementia physical and learning disabilities by March 2018.

Councillor Katherine Dunne, cabinet member for housing at Hounslow Council said: “We’re committed to making sure there is more affordable housing in the borough and that also includes providing proper support for residents who need specialised housing.

“Good quality housing is key to quality of life; especially for people who require physical adaptations to their homes and residential care.

“We believe that this scheme proposed for the Ex-Servicemens Club will help us keep vulnerable adults safe and independent but we want to hear from residents on what they think.”

The council’s chosen development from a number of options provided by consultants PRP Architects LLP who specialise in extra care housing include a two to three storey building comprising 84 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments, with up to 10 properties with wheelchair access.

A central communal area will include a learning disabilities garden, a dementia garden, seating bays, a restaurant, Internet café, a dedicated ambulance bay, and several lounge areas.

A new pedestrian path has been proposed to the north east of the site to give access to Blenheim Park from Shore Close.

Plans also include up to 33 parking spaces, cycle and scooter spaces.
