Plans to open a new primary free school in the borough of Hounslow have been submitted to the Department for Education.

Proposals are for St George’s Enterprise Primary School to open a business-focused school with a two form entry with 60 pupils in each year group in September 2017, in the Feltham and Hounslow area.

The development of a multi-faith school, for children aged four to 11, has been led by Father Paul Williamson of St George’s Church in Castle Way, Hanworth Park , who believes there is a growing need for school places in the borough.

The school intends to open with a reception and Year 1 class, and each year after that, another reception cohort will join the school until after seven years when the school is full.

The plans are sponsored by national education charity, Excell3, and Woodard Schools, a major Church of England sponsor.

Mr Williamson said: "We are thrilled to have such a wonderful sponsor who is providing such an excellent school.

"It is quite momentous that so many eminent people have joined the school committee and written letters of support - it shows how much the school is wanted."

Support has also been received from MP for Feltham and Heston Seema Malhotra , Hounslow Chamber of Commerce CEO Stephen Fry , and local businesses including SEGRO and Russell Finnex.

In a letter of support Ms Malhotra said: "A new St George’s School would be a welcome addition to the area, where I understand there to be a shortage of school places locally and limited Church of England Schools, which are oversubscribed.

"The school would focus on Business Studies in order to give students the best skills and education so as to achieve employment."

Mr Fry said in his support for the school: "The idea of a school acting as a focus and funnel of business studies for the business community is innovative and highly sensible.

"Many of our jobs are centred around the Heathrow economy in a range of sectors, the need is apparent, the idea is sensible and the strategy is a good one."

The school will cover national curriculum core subjects alongside delivering a strong business focus, pastoral care, and a Christian ethos.

Currently the search for a suitable site to build the school is being sought and once identified will go through the regular channels and be overseen by the DfE.

So far 220 parents have registered their interest in sending their child(ren) to the new school but more are needed.

Initial plans in 2014 included proposals for a new four-form entry primary school, St George’s CE School, to open in September 2016.
