Transport for London (TfL) has announced delays on the Piccadilly Line have been reduced to "minor" - tweeting its ironic delight in the process.

Passengers have been plagued by severe delays on the line because some trains have been taken out of service in order for the wheels to be repaired.

But today (December 16) Transport for London (TfL) said the delays had now been reduced to "minor."

In a message on Twitter, TfL said: "I am very happy to announce... Minor delays on the whole line".

There will also be minor delays on the Central Line, TfL added.

On Wednesday (December 14) TfL denied claims from the RMT Union that the delays would last until February next year.

RMT had also said the launch of the Night Tube on the line tonight "doesn't make sense" and should be halted.

But commenting on the claims from RMT, a spokesman said: "I have no idea where that is coming from (RMT claims), I don't know who has told them that.

"We are working hard to get the trains back on the service.

"We're talking more in weeks".

The downgrade from severe delays to minor delays comes as the line is set to launch the Night Tube service tonight (Friday December 16)

Transport for London (TfL) said the 24-hour service is still due to roll out on Friday (December 16) and run all night on Fridays and Saturdays, despite repairs being carried out on the wheels.
