Aviation experts have been left baffled after a British Airways passenger flight landed at Heathrow Airport with what appears to be a square tyre .

The A380 plane made a safe landing in west London on Friday (May 5) after the crew received a tyre pressure indication but decided to continue with the route, according to reports by the Aviator Herald .

Various theories as to what could have caused it to be misshapen have emerged, with some social media enthusiasts suggesting the high altitude could have caused the tyre to collapse in the strange manner.

One anonymous reader wrote: "It probably became square on landing when the deflated tire hit the ground and spun up."

Other suggestions, however, were a little more eccentric.

Commenter Moog wrote under the report: "It's one of those lesser-known but ingenious design features of the A388.

"In order to save space and allow more luggage/cargo to be carried, they fit those tyres inside square wells when the undercarriage is retracted."
