A 76-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital following a collision with a van in Ealing.

The man was rushed to a central London hospital after a crash with a flatbed transit van at the junction of Northfield Avenue and Salisbury Road, on Wednesday (May 25) morning.

Police, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the London's Air Ambulance attended the scene of the accident.

The male driver of the van stopped at the scene and is helping detectives with their enquiries.

He has not been arrested but is being interviewed under caution.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision which is believed to have happened at 9.45am.

A Met Police statement said: "Police were called at approximately 10am on Wednesday, to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a flatbed transit van at the junction of Northfield Avenue and Salisbury Road.

"A 76-year-old male cyclist was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition."

In nearby Northolt, police are investigating a stabbing incident in which a young man is fighting for his life .

Police are also appealing for witnesses following another serious collision in Oxford Street between a pedestrian and bus on Tuesday (May 24) afternoon.
