Parents are outraged over planned parking restrictions in the residential area surrounding Glebe Primary School in Hillingdon .

After consultation with residents the council are proposing to introduce residents-only parking between 9am and 5pm at the school in Sussex Road, Ickenham.

This would mean parents would not be able to park their cars and walk onto the school site to collect their children from either the primary school or on site nursery at the end of the school day.

“It's a fantastic, really brilliant school which gets fantastic Ofsted results and it would be a real shame if people stopped there kids attending because they are concerned about not being able to collect them,” said Julie Crawford, whose child attends the nursery.

“Obviously my number one priority is my child's safety so I want to be able to collect them from inside the site.

“I have heard other parents mentioning pulling their kids out of the school, I think that is too far at the moment, but I can understand why.”

Parents at the school currently have a 200-strong Facebook page as they look for a solution to their issue.

The council consulted with residents on the issue, but have had no correspondence with the parents to discuss how an agreement could be agreed to suit both parties.

Although local residents did, almost unanimously, agree that parking restrictions were needed, many highlighted their concerns about the effect it would have on the school.

The council chose to survey residents about their views and although 21 flagged up concerns about school parents and stated they 'would like a scheme that would work with the nearby school to provide parking for parents and teachers for school permits' nothing appears to have been done to make this a viable option.

The official report from Hillingdon council stated that although a number of residents raised concerns and suggested a short morning only restriction, they believe a nine to five restriction would be supported by the majority of residents.

The roads in question are Burnham Avenue, St Giles Avenue, the section of Lawrence Drive west of Kempton Close, Austin's Lane, Sussex Road and Tavistock Road.
