Pupils at a Feltham school were thrilled to shoot some hoops with Paralympian wheelchair basketball player Ade Adepitan.

The youngsters along with teachers at The Rise School in Browells Lane welcomed the athlete and television presenter to officially open their new school building last Friday (October 7).

He was given a tour of the school as well as the sports facilities where he showed some of his ball skills.

Adepitan said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been invited by the pupils of The Rise to officially open their new school.

"It's fantastic to know that children with autism are receiving an education where their special educational needs can be met so they can reach their full potential."

The Rise School - which opened in September 2014 for children aged from four to 18 with autism - is located on the same site as Springwest Academy, formerly known as Feltham Community College.

It is the first school to be opened by the Autism Schools Trust, a multi academy trust.

Local MPs Seema Malhotra and Ruth Cadbury also attended the opening last week.

Headteacher Sarah Roscoe added: "It was a very special day for The Rise School’s community and we're delighted that Ade Adepitan was able to come along and share it with us.

"It has been an incredible journey for the whole school community, from our posh cabins to our state of the art new building we see today.

"Days like this make the journey truly worthwhile and I am so very proud of all associated with our school."
