An appalled couple were left furious and concerned for their newborn after claiming they found bugs in their baby formula.

Kirsty Humphrey said she was horrified after she went to make four-month old Oakley his food, only to find insects in the powder.

Now the 27-year-old, along with husband Chris, is worried for little Oakley who has had SMA Baby Formula before.

Speaking to getwestlondon , Kirsty said: "I was so angry, I didn't know what to do, it's not something you expect to see.

'Horrified': Kirsty sifted through the powder to find insects in the formula

"It's for a baby, you'd think there'd be more safety there.

"We had Oakley after IVF treatment and we don't want anything to happen."

After calling SMA Baby Care, she said the company have asked them to send off a sample of the formula after they discovered the bug on Wednesday (January 25) night.

The Ruislip resident added: "They came back to me and weren't really apologetic and said we need to send it off for investigation and they'll give me vouchers for a new one.

"But if my baby got ill, a voucher wouldn't make him better.

"We were even more worried because she paused on the phone when I said he was an IVF baby."

The parents were left worried, especially after the IVF treatment they went through

The batch, from Eastcote High Street's Superdrug, was well within its sell by date, which surprised dad Chris even more.

"I was shocked, we had another batch but didn't use it just in case," he said.

Both agreed that they felt it should be highlighted in case a new born baby gets ill and "it's too late".

A spokesman for SMA Baby said: "We profusely apologise if consumers find any products not in a good condition.

"We cannot comment any further until the investigation is complete."
