A motorcycle rider is in "critical condition" after he suffered serious blows to the head following a hit and run in Paddington last night.

The 21-year-old man was rushed to hospital by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service after a collision with another vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.

Emergency services were called at around 7.40pm to the crash on Edgware Road, near the junction with Newcastle Place, on Thursday (January 5).

Officers from the Metropolitan Police attended the scene, where rider of a Piaggio Vespa Scooter suffered "serious head injuries."

Investigating officers believe the other vehicle involved was a white or light coloured transit-style van.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Roads and Transport Policing Command officers are appealing for witnesses and information after a fail to stop collision in Paddington left a motorcycle rider with serious head injuries.

"The vehicle the scooter had been collision with did not stop at the scene."

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the incident.

They are particularly interested in witnesses to the crash and any information about the van involved.
