A man has died after being hit by a train at Oxford Circus tube station, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed.

The man died when he was hit by a westbound tube on the Central Line on Wednesday afternoon (October 4).

Emergency services were sent to the London Underground station at around 2.20pm.

A spokesman for BTP said: "A person has sadly died after they were struck by a westbound Central Line train at Oxford Circus station this afternoon.

"Officers were called at approximately 2.20pm and attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The station was evacuated following the incident.

There was a large emergency services presence in the area.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 2.20pm to Oxford Circus station to reports of a person hit by a train.

“We sent two ambulance crews, a single responder in a car and an incident response officer to the scene - and we arrived on scene within four minutes of the call coming into our control room.

“Sadly, the patient was dead at the scene.”

The Transport for London website reports there are severe delays on the Central Line.

Tickets are being accpeted on local buses and TfL rail.
