The M4 westbound was blocked across two lanes after a lorry overturned on Wednesday afternoon (October 12).

Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident which happened on the westbound side of the road between Maidenhead and Wokingham at around 12.51pm.

The driver of the lorry is reported to have been airlifted to a hospital in Oxford suffering from head injuries.

Drivers are being urged to follow a diversion through Maidenhead.

Thames Valley Police released a statement which said: “The westbound carriageway of the M4 at J 8/9-10 will be closed for at least ten hours.

“This is following a collision on the westbound carriageway at about 12.45pm today.

“A truck overturned and the driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The eastbound carriageway was also shut following the collision but has now reopened.

“A diversion route is now in place along the A404, M40 and A34.

“Please avoid the area if you can.”
