A knifeman was arrested outside Buckingham Palace just seconds before the Queen passed by on Wednesday morning (May 24).

Metropolitan Police said the man was arrested and lead away at around 10.40am when he was found to have a knife on his person at The Mall reports The Mirror .

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the incident is not believed to be terror-related.

An eyewitness said he saw a man surrounded by officers and handcuffed as he sat on the ground in The Mall at around 10.40am on Wednesday.

A police van arrived with lights flashing and drove him away.

Security has been increased at major London tourist spots.

Prime Minister Theresa May said the night before (Tuesday May 23) that the threat level for a future terrorist attach had been raised to critical in the wake of the attack in Manchester on Monday night (May 24).

The armed forces have been drafted in to help police high-profile locations including Buckingham Palace, Parliament and several embassies.

This is the highest threat level and means that a further attack is not just likely but could be imminent.

The suicide bomb at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester killed at least 22 people and injured 119.
