A Notting Hill theatre has been labelled "racist" after an east Asian play is set to be played by a "white cast".

The Print Room will see a protest this evening (January 19) after four caucasian actors were cast for the Chinese play "In the Depths of Deep Love".

A peaceful protest on the opening night comes after hundreds joined the Facebook group against the decision.

Organiser of the protest Andrew Keates told getwestlondon: "It's a horrifying decision, there's East Asian origin talent out there.

"China isn't a made up place and in the history of British theatre, we deny ethnic minorities the chance to get on stage."

The theatre director from Wimbledon added: "It's unacceptable what they're doing, I think they've acted in ignorance.

"This theatre is not dedicated to diversity and has ridiculed ethnic minorities with this decision."

The Print Room released a statement to say they misjudged the offence some would take and are "deeply sorry".

It wrote: "We never discriminate on the basis of ethnic origin in our casting and require the same from directors working in the Print Room.

"We can all learn from our shortcomings in this case and will continue to promote our commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in all we do."

The well known Notting Hill theatre will face the protest after it was organised in collaboration with Kensington and Chelsea Borough Metropolitan Police Service.

It is due to begin at 6pm.
