A £35million new building in Hillingdon will allow a school to offer 1,080 places for pupils in the borough.

The grand opening of the facility at Northwood School was held on Thursday (October 13) by head teacher Mark Anderson, the Mayor of Hillingdon and council leader Ray Puddifoot.

Northwood's expansion is part of a £144m Hillingdon Council drive to increase school places.

'I want to say a massive thank you'

Mr Anderson said: “I'd like to thank the London Borough of Hillingdon for all their support and for making this happen.

"This new building to me is about inspiring people, staff, students and the local community as well.

“I think it's going to take this school to the next level so I want to say a massive thank you to everybody who's been involved in this project.”

The new building in Pinner Road features 53 classrooms, specialist design and technology rooms, a sports hall and a sixth form study.

The Education Funding Agency contributed £7m to the project, which was completed with the help of Farrans Construction.

'Exceptional facilities'

Leader of Hillingdon Council, Councillor Ray Puddifoot, said: “The exceptional facilities at Northwood School will help to provide young people with an excellent education.

“The rebuild of Northwood is only the start of the council's £144m secondary school expansion programme.

“We already have one of the largest primary and secondary school expansion programmes in London to ensure every child is offered a place as close to home as possible, and we will continue to create places for secondary schools as demand grows.”

Three brand new schools in Hillingdon have recently been given the go-ahead by the Government .
