A man arrested following a stand off with police in Northolt lasting almost three days has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Metropolitan police ordered 80 residents to evacuate their homes in Wood End Lane in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 22) because they believed a man inside the property had "petrol and combustible material."

The incident came to an end on Sunday night (October 23) when officers entered the property and arrested the man on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, affray and offences under the explosives act.

Police said today (Wednesday October 26) that the 46-year-old man has been sectioned under section 2 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

He has been bailed to return to Acton Police Station at a date in mid-December, while a mental health assessment is completed.
