Thousands are heading to Notting Hill this weekend to lap up the atmosphere of the annual carnival.

The world famous event is loved by so many, and yet seemingly hated by a great number of others, as a trawl through Twitter has confirmed as the 2016 carnival got under way.

Some cannot help but enthusiastically express their fond feelings towards the carnival, as this Twitter user so eloquently did.

An enthusiastic tweet praising Notting Hill Carnival

But others are very much on the other side of the coin and would seemingly rather do almost anything else than catch as much as a fleeting glimpse of the parade, or even a whiff of jerk chicken.

Some of the hostility appears to stem from fears of violence, something that the Met Police are looking to stamp out this year after a rise in gang fighting last year.

Other comments come from residents who are beyond fed up of having two million visitors to their street every year.

Watch what people in Notting Hill said when our reporter visited to see if people would rather the carnival be moved elsewhere, as has been suggested.
