Donations have been pouring in to help a family in Hanworth as they continue to pray for the survival of their baby boy.

Baby Bleu Saunders was born March 21 with severe fluid on the brain and a tumour, and after nearly seven weeks and multiple surgeries at Kings College Hospital, parents Hayley Excell and Paul Saunders hope the recent brain shunt surgery will be the last as their little boy is recovering well.

A shunt is a thin tube inserted into the brain to drain excess fluid from the brain to another part of the body, usually the abdomen, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream.

While his doting parents have not left the bedside, the community in Hanworth rallied together to host a fundraiser which raised a staggering £8,400 last week.

On top of this, family friend Kaleigh-Jane Scott completed the Tough Mudder challenge raising an additional £5,800, bringing the total to over £14,000.

Grandmother Pauline Saunders previously said she was amazed at "how the community have pulled together... and how much people do care".

Family friend Michelle Thomson, said: “What an amazing day the rain never stopped anyone coming and it showed how much everyone pulled together for our little fighter Bleu.”

The kind-hearted generosity of the public has resulted in an overwhelming sum which will now see a large chunk split between Kings College Hospital; Ronald McDonald House Charity; The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice and SEN (special educational needs) Lindon Bennett School in Hanworth.

Some of the money will be used to help the Saunders family pay for bills and rent following the end of compassionate leave from work forcing dad to take unpaid leave to remain at by his son’s side.
