Ruth Cadbury , MP for Brentford and Isleworth, has been appointed as shadow housing minister.

Working with shadow secretary of state John Healy MP on Labour's front bench, along with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, she plans to work with councillors across the country to find a solution to the ever growing housing crisis.

She will bring with her experience as a town planner and Hounslow councillor dealing with many families on her doorstep facing homelessness and overcrowded accommodation.

Ms Cadbury, who is delighted join the housing team on the front bench, said: "Housing is a huge issue locally in West London and across the country.

"As a result of this Government’s policies, owning a home is an unattainable dream for so many youngsters, and for countless people even having somewhere stable and affordable to call home is impossible.

“I believe passionately that having a decent, secure home is a fundamental human right. Building adequate housing can have a transformative effect on communities and on the economy."

During her weekly MP surgery session she says residents approach her about the implications rising prices and rents are having on their lives.

Ms Cadbury added: "When Government support was available Hounslow delivered new housing association and council homes at affordable rents.

"But this Government have withdrawn all support for social rented housing, and are cutting further the rent support for low-income households.

"Too many families are facing homelessness, many more are severely overcrowded. In London, young people even those earning good salaries, have little hope of getting on the housing ladder."
