An opening ceremony marked a new chapter for Stanmore Library, following a month long refurbishment.

The new look library is now more than just a place to borrow books, thanks to the addition of a gallery, studio and improved study space.

The library, which reopened on Thursday (April 7) now boasts a bright, attractive and modern space for community use.

Kitted with new furniture and décor, locals can now make use of gallery exhibition space, work and study areas set up for laptops and tablets, a studio, meeting room and a colourful re-designed children’s library.

Councillor Sue Anderson, portfolio holder for community, culture and resident engagement at Harrow Council , said: “What a fantastic transformation! Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the redesign and refurbishment of the library.

“A year ago you would have seen a library that was worn out and in need of an upgrade.

“Stanmore Library is now a bright and attractive place to relax, learn, work and study. It’s now fit for the 21st Century, and I hope that the local community enjoy the new and upgraded facilities.”

Back in October last year, Harrow Council asked for feedback from local residents to help redesign the library.

Stanmore’s transformation is the first to be completed as part of the council's library refurbishment programme which aims to update the décor of Harrow’s libraries.

The improvements at Stanmore Library include redecoration, new flooring, lighting, signage, furniture, and an upgrade of the book shelves.
