A 20mph limit has been introduced by Park High School in Harrow after residents complained of cars "zooming down the road" in the area.

The council took swift action after those in the neighbourhood said speed bumps must be installed or the borough could see "a fatality" before it gets noticed.

Before the changes came into place, resident Kalpana Kanbi who lives in Burnell Gardens said: "There are cars zooming down the road. What action is being taken? Why are speed bumps not installed?"

Funding secured for 20mph zone in the area around Park High School

Johann Alles, traffic engineer for Traffic, Highways & Asset Management Harrow, said: "The 20mph zone will reduce vehicle speeds which will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents within the area, improve pedestrian and cycle safety and encourage walking and cycling in the area.

"I am pleased to advise that we have been successful in securing funding from Transport for London to introduce a 20mph zone in the area around Park High School.

"The zone will be self-enforcing by the use of speed cushions which will be depended on the results of speed surveys that we are currently undertaking in some of the roads."

Initial designs are currently being drawn up according to the council, after which will be carrying out a consultation exercise with the affected residents and businesses.

Consultation is likely to take place in June or July whereby residents can feed back their comments.
