Neighbours have kicked up a stink over the council's alleged failure to collect rubbish bags from a street in Chiswick on countless occasions.

A number of families living in Loraine Road were disgusted by the mess as black bin bags were strewn across their street last week.

This latest episode has tipped people over the edge and fed-up residents are at their wits end having raised the issue with Hounslow Council whose bin collectors had not picked up the rubbish on collection day.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "The bin collection day is Wednesday and the following day the rubbish was still on the road causing an awful stench.

"Rubbish bags had been split and strewn across footpaths and on the road as people throw their bags out splitting the bin bags as they have not purchased bins for their front garden.

"This is an ongoing issue of neglect by the council, amongst others regarding this road.

"We have raised concerns with the council continuously through the correct channels since we formally met with them as a community in November 2014.

"We were given untold reassurances at the meeting, but unfortunately many of us have watched the road's rapid decline as tenant after tenant passes through.

"As a result our community is suffering and at times our personal safety is put at risk."

The road is located between a nursery and two primary schools, both of which have nurseries, which means lots of children walk down Loraine Road regularly.

Another neighbour, who has also contacted the council regarding the issue which happens regularly, added: "I was disgusted to find used condoms and empty whiskey bottles scattered on Lorraine Road.

"I was walking with my toddler and did not wish to highlight the matter to him by taking photos but be assured they were there."

The council has said they will be doing some door knocking education with residents on this street.

A Hounslow Council spokesman said: “It appears that there is some confusion around when and where some residents should be leaving their rubbish for collection, which has resulted in some bags being uncollected.

“We will monitor this area and speak to residents on the street to ensure they are aware of their collection arrangements.”
