Footage taken by an eyewitness after a car ploughed into crowds outside the Natural History Museum shows crowds fleeing the scene screaming.

The video was taken seconds after a car mounted the kerb and crashed into pedestrians in Exhibition Road just after 2.20pm on Saturday (October 7).

It has been confirmed that nine out of the 11 people injured have been taken to hospital.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the incident is a non-terror collision and a man is "under arrest" while "enquiries are ongoing".

The video tweeted by Damian Hackett shows a number of pedestrians running in panic while some frightened screams can be heard in the background.

According to The Mirror, other eyewitnesses described seeing the car which "drove into people" outside the major tourist destination.

Forensic officers have been spotted at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 14.21 hours on Saturday, 7 October to reports of a road traffic collision in Exhibition Road, South Kensington.

"Whilst enquiries continue it is believed a car mounted the pavement and collided with a number of pedestrians.

"Eleven people were found at the scene with varying injuries and nine of them have been taken to hospital, and this includes the man that was detained by police.

"Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"The man detained by officers is currently under arrest and is in custody at a north London police station.

"The incident is a road traffic investigation and not a terrorist-related incident.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Kane Jones, manager of nearby restaurant Byron Gloucester Road praised the quick response of the police.

He said: "I was at the post office at the corner of Cromwell Road, on the phone to a friend who told me it was all over Twitter.

He added: "I saw loads of police flying down the road, the helicopter is still here.

"It is good to see the police act so efficiently, even if it wasn’t a big incident.

"I am confident in the police."
